Wamp’s Hat Trick Leads Women’s Lacrosse Over UMass Lowell

Saints Improve to Program-Best Start of 5-0

LOWELL, Mass. — Siena Women's Lacrosse continued its program-best start to a season by reeling off its fifth consecutive victory with a 10-8 victory at UMass Lowell (2-4) on Saturday at Cushing Field Complex.   

Siena's defense held strong in the final quarter, allowing just one goal to maintain the lead, and junior Elizabeth Wamp put together her third straight hat trick to lead all scorers.

The Saints took command from jump, producing six goals in the opening quarter with the first two coming off the stick of Olivia Nicholson, and one apiece from Wamp, Lauren O'Hagan, Avery Connolly and Eva Pflomm

The first quarter began with Siena taking control early on, as Nicholson scored the opening goal at 12:10 through a free position shot. Siena continued to build momentum, with Connolly assisting Nicholson for her second goal at 9:56. Wamp extended the lead with an unassisted goal at 8:58. The Riverhawks responded with a free position goal from Chloe Bowers at 7:22, narrowing the gap. O'Hagan and Connolly each added to the score, with Connolly converting a free position attempt at 4:34. Macy Shultz and Bronwyn Hilbert scored for UMass Lowell, but Pflomm's free position goal at 1:41 ensured Siena concluded the quarter ahead 6-3.

The Riverhawks responded with a goal by Macy Shultz at 6:24, assisted by Bronwyn Hilbert. Siena answered back with a goal from with Wamp at 5:26, assisted by Connolly. Grace Lydon capitalized on a free position to cut the lead to 7-5 going into the break.  

UMass Lowell cut into the lead further when Bronwyn Hilbert scored at 13:26, assisted by Georgia Ruscitti. Then, Macy Shultz tied it at 7-7 on a goal at 9:35, assisted by Brienne Brezynskie. Wamp's third goal of the day gave Siena the lead back 8-7 at 7:31.

Koehler Nieman opened the fourth quarter scoring for Siena with a goal just 16 seconds in. Pflomm added another for Siena on a free position shot at 12:44, extending the lead. UMass Lowell responded with a goal by Georgia Ruscitti, assisted by Kaitlynn Anderson, at 1:03 to narrow the gap. Despite their efforts, UMass Lowell could not overcome the deficit.

Salter finished with eight saves and five ground balls to improve to 12-1 all-time. 

Next up, Siena will host Villanova (3-2) on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Hickey Field.
