Baseball Puts on Offensive Show; Tops Stony Brook 14-8

Seven Saints Had Multiple Hits on Day

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Behind an offensive onslaught, the Siena Baseball team's bats unleashed a 17-hit bombardment as the Saints defeated Stony Brook with a 14-8 victory on Tuesday at Joe Nathan Field.
 
Siena capitalized on a seven-run second inning to establish a commanding lead early and held off a Seawolves' rally attempt with six more insurance runs. 
 
The Saints improved to 6-8 overall while the Seawolves fell to 2-12 on the season. 
 
Siena has now won six of their last seven games. 
 
Stony Brook cut into the lead in the third inning with a three-run homer by James Schaffer that trimmed Siena's lead to 8-5.
 
The Seawolves pressure continued in the fourth with an unearned run on Mathew Jackson's sac fly RBI, bringing them within two.
 
However, Siena responded decisively in the fifth inning, extending its lead with a solo homer to left by Cannon Vandever and a timely RBI single by Aidan Paradine, making it 10-6.
 
Siena took control again in the seventh inning, capitalizing on a walk and stolen base by Steven Ramirez.
 
With two outs, freshman Matt Hambly doubled to bring Ramirez home, and Edwin Sanchez followed with a two-run homer, pushing the lead to 13-6.
 
In the ninth, Hambly's RBI single added an insurance run, while the bullpen secured the win by striking out the side in the bottom of the inning.
 
Nick Bergamotto recorded three hits and scored two runs, driving in one.
 
Thorburn contributed with two hits and two runs, adding a stolen base.
 
Sanchez hit a home run, finishing with two RBIs and a run scored.
 
Vandever also homered, tallying two hits and two RBIs.
 
Matthew Jackson stood out with an outstanding performance for Stony Brook, scoring three runs and driving in three RBIs, highlighted by a home run.
 
Botelho led Siena's pitching staff, securing the win with an effective two-inning performance, allowing just one hit while striking out one and walking two.
 
Vaughn contributed with a scoreless inning, striking out one and issuing two walks.
 
For the Seawolves, Evan Kay took the loss, giving up four earned runs on six hits in just one inning.
 
Luca Mannino pitched the longest for the Seawolves, completing three innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits, including a home run, while striking out two.
 
In their next game, the Saints will travel to face Rider (4-4, 2-1 MAAC) at 3 p.m. on Friday in Lawrenceville, New Jersey to resume MAAC play as part of a three-game weekend series.
