Siena Baseball fell to Rider 10–1 on Saturday at Sonny Pittaro Field in Lawrenceville, NJ. The Saints' lone run came on a third-inning sacrifice fly.
Rider (8-5, 4-1) took control early, scoring four runs in the first inning. Ethan Hartmann sparked the rally with a run-scoring triple to right field before Kevin Neri followed with a single to drive in another run. A sacrifice fly and an additional run-scoring single pushed the Broncs' lead to 4–0.
Siena (6-10, 2-3) answered in the third inning when
Cannon Vandever reached on an error and moved to third on a double from
Gavin Thorburn.
Vincent Venditti lifted a sacrifice fly to score Vandever, cutting the deficit to 4–1.
The Saints threatened again in the sixth inning after
Josh Thompson delivered a two-out single, but Siena could not bring the run home.
Rider added insurance throughout the later innings, highlighted by a three-run home run from Nathan Shuhet in the seventh to extend the lead. Siena's final chance came in the ninth when
Matt Thorsen reached base, but the Saints were unable to mount a rally.
Thorburn's double highlighted Siena's offense, while Thompson and
Aidan Paradine each added a hit. Venditti drove in the Saints' lone run.
Kevin Neri led Rider with four hits and three runs batted in, while Ethan Hartmann recorded a double, a triple, and scored twice. Nathan Shuhet added a home run and four runs batted in.
On the mound,
David Siciliano took the loss for Siena after allowing five earned runs over five innings with three strikeouts.
JT Gunzy pitched the final three innings in relief.
Rider's Kyle Batt earned the win, allowing four hits and one unearned run across eight innings.
Siena and Rider will complete the three-game series at noon on Sunday.
