Olmstead Unleashed; Men’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Manhattan

Senior Attack Had Career-Best Seven-Point Day

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.Caden Olmstead had a career-high seven points with six goals, the defense kept the pressure on and Siena Men's Lacrosse rolled past Manhattan 15-9 on Saturday at Hickey Field to pick up a conference victory.

The Saints (6-2, 2-0 MAAC) also received two goals and four assists from Patrick Radomski, two goals and three assists from Conor Hufnagel and two goals and an assist from Gavin Blenk

Manhattan (2-6, 0-2 MAAC) was led by Connor Engel, who scored four times and Sean Shelko, who had three goals. 

Siena's defense was spearheaded by Jacob Wells, who had a team-high four caused turnovers and two ground balls while Riley Hegarty contributed with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. 

The Saints were propelled by a dominant first quarter, in which they scored seven goals, setting the tone for the remainder of the game.

Siena took an early lead against the Jaspers in the first quarter, with Caden Olmstead opening the scoring at 14:27, assisted by Conor Hufnagel.

The Saints continued their aggressive offense as Patrick Radomski and Nikolas Barbero added goals, with Radomski's goal assisted by Olmstead at 12:31.

Olmstead struck again at 8:32, this time assisted by Riley Hegarty, extending the lead.

Manhattan's Connor Engel responded with a goal at 7:19, but Olmstead completed his hat trick at 5:58.

Despite another goal from Engel with a man-up advantage, the Saints' Conor Hufnagel scored at 3:41, assisted by Radomski, and Olmstead capped the quarter with his fourth goal at 00:13, securing a 7-2 lead for the home team.

In the second quarter, Siena capitalized on an early extra-man opportunity with Olmstead scoring from a Radomski assist at 14:46.

Manhattan responded with Sean Shelko's goal at 7:07, narrowing the gap.

Engel added another for the Jaspers at 3:29, with Shelko scoring again at 2:11 to bring the visitors closer.

Despite several attempts by both teams, including multiple saves by Siena's Vito DeBellis, the quarter concluded with Siena maintaining an 8-5 lead.

Siena extended its lead in the third quarter with a series of efficient plays. Radomski opened the scoring at 14:40 with a goal assisted by Liam Lennon. Shortly after, Olmstead netted another goal at 14:13, thanks to an assist from Gavin Blenk. Blenk found the back of the net himself at 7:41, further increasing Siena's lead.

Manhattan responded with a goal by Liam Peabody at 6:24, but the Saints' Patrick Linton answered with a goal at 4:10, assisted by Hufnagel, to keep the momentum on the home team's side.

By the end of the quarter, Siena held a commanding 12-6 lead over Manhattan.

Siena began the fourth quarter with momentum, as Gavin Blenk scored just 39 seconds in, following a faceoff win by Logan Banek.

Travis Fry added another goal at 10:08, extending Siena's lead. Hufnagel found the net at 6:33, assisted by Liam Lennon, maintaining the offensive pressure.

Manhattan responded with a man-up goal from Engel at 5:25, and Sean Shelko added another shortly after, reducing the deficit. Alex Bales' goal at 2:07 brought Manhattan closer, but Siena's defense held, securing a 15-9 victory.

Next up, Siena will play at Marist (4-2, 2-0 MAAC) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
