LOUDONVILLE, NY — Siena Softball opened its home slate in emphatic fashion, earning a 5–1 victory over Saint Peter's at Siena Softball Field. The Saints (4-17, 1-8 MAAC) tallied a season-high four doubles as part of a 10-hit performance, while limiting the Peacocks (13-9, 6-3 MAAC) to just three hits in a well-rounded effort.
Gracie Goewey delivered a dominant showing in the circle, tossing a complete game to secure the win. The junior allowed just three hits and one earned run over seven innings, striking out five without issuing a walk. She threw 59 strikes on 91 pitches and kept Saint Peter's off balance all afternoon, inducing eight flyouts and seven groundouts.
Goewey also made her presence felt at the plate, driving in three runs on a pair of doubles.
Emma Petersen added a multi-hit performance with two knocks, including a double, and an RBI, while
Megan Klein set the tone at the top of the lineup by reaching base twice, scoring two runs, and sparking multiple scoring opportunities.
Siena wasted little time getting on the board. In the first inning, Klein singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from
Chloe Cummings before Petersen roped a double to left center to plate the game's first run. Goewey followed with a double of her own, bringing Petersen home to give the Saints an early 2–0 advantage.
The Saints broke the game open in the fifth. Klein worked a leadoff walk, stole second, and moved to third on a groundout. Petersen drew a walk to put two on, setting up Goewey's second double of the day, which cleared the bases.
Ella Milante capped the inning with an RBI single to left, scoring Goewey and extending the lead to 5–0.
Saint Peter's pushed across its lone run in the sixth inning, as Lauren Czerw came around to score on a double from Kiana Kadena. However, Goewey quickly settled back in to close out the contest and secure the Saints' first home win of the season.
Siena and Saint Peter's will meet again on Sunday, March 29, for a doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for noon in Loudonville.
