Tre Mariano homered twice and Michael Maggio drove in four runs as UAlbany slugged past Siena Baseball 13-10 in the series-opener at Connors Park. The teams combined for seven home runs in a back-and-forth barn burner.
Siena (10-23) claimed an 8-4 lead through the first six innings, fueled by a season-high four home runs.
Matt Thorsen (two-run shot) and
Noah Brooks went back-to-back during a three-run first, while
Scott Lynch added a solo blast to kickstart a three-run fourth.
Nick Bergamotto, who finished a perfect 4-4 and was just a triple short of a cycle, added a two-run shot in the fifth.
But UAlbany (10-20) worked 12 walks and took advantage of five costly errors which led to five unearned runs. The seventh inning proved to be a microcosm as the Great Danes batted around sending 11 men to the plate in a six-run frame to reclaim a 10-8 lead. UAlbany worked a pair of walks and also capitalized on a pair of errors in the inning.
Siena rallied back to draw even at 10-all in the seventh on a two-run double from
Vincent Venditti.
But the Great Danes would strike last, scratching across an unearned run in the eighth before finishing things off with a two-run ninth inning. UAlbany has now won six of seven since the crosstown rivalry was rekindled in 2024, while averaging 14.7 runs in their six wins.
The crosstown rivals will continue their four-game weekend wraparound series Saturday over at UAlbany with doubleheader action beginning at 1 p.m.
