Women’s Lacrosse Makes Statement on Playoff-Clinching Victory

Eleven Different Saints Record a Goal in 19-4 dominant road win at Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y. — Needing to win to assure themselves of a MAAC postseason berth, Siena Women's Lacrosse left no doubt and the Saints dominated Manhattan with a convincing 19–4 victory on Saturday at Gaelic Park to wrap the regular season.

Siena's balanced attack saw it strike for a seven-goal second quarter as well as five goals in both the first and fourth quarters, while maintaining a perfect 24-for-24 on clear attempts.

Eleven different Saints registered at least one point while seven others scored at least twice.  Siena held a commanding 35-8 shots advantage including 24-3 for shots on goal.

Junior Sydney Hannes achieved a career-high 13 draw controls while freshman Cassidy Morrow secured her second hat trick of the season and first since Feb. 21 in the FDU game. Joining Morrow as two-goal scorers were Avery Connolly, Sara Curley, Elizabeth Wamp, Olivia Nicholson, Cassidy Bonura and Hailey Deptula. Others to find their way on the scorer's sheet were Jenna Pollicino, Angie Efstathiou, Kylie Kuhn, Cass Belsito and Koehler Nieman.

Siena started the first quarter strongly with Hannes securing the draw control, leading to an early offensive push. Deptula opened the scoring at 10:56, followed by a quick goal from Connolly at 10:27 to give Siena a 2–0 lead. Wamp added to the tally at 7:05, increasing their advantage before Ella Brunette responded with a free position goal for the Jaspers at 5:54. Connolly struck again at 4:36 with an assist from Nieman, and Pollicino capitalized on a player-up opportunity with a free position goal at 2:27, concluding the quarter with Siena ahead 5–1.

Siena dominated the second quarter with a strong offensive performance, beginning with a free position goal by Efstathiou at 13:43. Deptula extended the lead with a goal assisted by Nieman at 10:44. Curley added to the tally with a goal, assisted by Efstathiou, at 9:08. Nicholson scored twice, once unassisted at 8:24 and again at 7:27, assisted by Pollicino, capitalizing on a player-up situation. Morrow found the net with a free position shot at 3:36. Despite a late goal from the Jaspers' Lauren Maher, Siena closed the quarter with a goal from Bonura, assisted by Curley, at 00:17, ending the quarter with a 12–2 lead.

Brunette opened the third quarter with a goal for the Jaspers at 14:23, assisted by Maher, extending their early momentum. However, Siena responded with two consecutive goals, starting with Wamp at 9:50, followed by Curley at 5:44, assisted by Connolly. Hannes was instrumental in this quarter, securing multiple draw controls for Siena. Despite several turnovers by both teams, Siena maintained control and ended the quarter leading 14–3.

The final quarter saw Siena extend its lead with a dominant performance. Maher scored for the Jaspers at 12:53, assisted by Ella Hirsch, but Siena responded strongly. Bonura quickly tied the score at 11:13, followed by a goal from Kuhn at 10:00, assisted by Pollicino. Siena continued its offensive surge with goals from Belsito at 7:05 and a pair from Morrow, who scored at both 5:55 and 4:03. Despite several turnovers, Siena's draw control success, particularly by Hannes, ensured control throughout the quarter, culminating in a 19–4 win.

Siena finished the regular season with a record of 10-6 and is 5-3 in conference play. The Jaspers held their Senior Day and finished with a record of 3-14 and a conference record of 2-6.

The Saints extended its MAAC playoff streak to seven consecutive seasons (excluding the unfinished COVID season in 2020) and have now won four consecutive games heading into the postseason.

Siena also achieved its sixth double-digit win season since 2019.

The fifth-seeded Saints will play at No. 4 seed Mount St. Mary's (10-6 overall, 6-2 MAAC) on Sunday, April 26 in a MAAC Tournament First Round match up.
