LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Baseball secured Capital Region bragging rights with an exclamation point to punctuate a four-game series victory over crosstown rival UAlbany.
Nick Bergamotto capped a fantastic series with three more hits and a home run as the Saints scored both their first run-rule and shutout win of the season with a 10-0 seven-inning triumph over the Great Danes at Connors Park.
Â
Siena (13-23) scored in each of the first five innings to finish with exactly 10 runs scored in all four games of the series. This marks the first time the Saints have scored 10 or more runs in four straight games in a quarter century, dating back to Apr. 25-29, 2001 at NYIT and Saint Peter's (three games). Siena hasn't accomplished the feat in five consecutive games since 1989.
Â
The Saints once again used the long ball to their advantage to build an early lead. Bergamotto smacked a two-run home run in the opening frame, and
Cole Hambly peppered the library with a solo shot to extend the advantage to 3-0 in the second inning. Bergamotto finished the four-game wraparound weekend by posting a whopping 11-16 stat line with seven runs scored, a pair of homers, and seven RBI.
Â
Siena doubled the lead with a three-run third, before opening the floodgates courtesy of a
Matt Thorsen three-run home run to extend the lead to 9-0 in the fourth. The Saints smashed seven home runs over the two home games in the series after totaling just 16 spanning their other 34 games this season.
Â
Siena capped the scoring on a defensive miscue in the fifth to wrap the series with a third straight victory. The Saints, who entered the series averaging just 5.0 runs per game, doubled their double-digit run total for all of 2026 with their four 10-run efforts against UAlbany (10-23).
Â
The run support was more than enough for
Gio Conte and a pair of relievers to secure the staff's first shutout since Apr. 6 of last season. Conte went the first five strong, scattering just two hits while striking out three to register his team-high third win.
Â
Siena will look to carry their momentum into a pivotal MAAC weekend series at Sacred Heart. The three-game set gets underway Friday at 3 p.m. in Connecticut.
