LOUDONVILLE, NY — The Siena Men's Lacrosse team dropped its regular season finale to Merrimack 14-6 at home on Wednesday afternoon.
Despite winning 15 of 24 face offs and matching Merrimack in ground balls with 33, the Saints (11-4, 7-1 MAAC) could not overcome their Warriors' efficient offensive performance that included three extra-man goals.
In doing so, Merrimack (6-8, 5-3 MAAC) clinched the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 seed Quinnipiac (5-9, 4-4 MAAC) this Sunday at 1 p.m. in a MAAC First Round match up. The winner of this game will play at No. 1 Siena next Thursday, April 30 in a MAAC Semifinal match up.
The Warriors made good on 14 of their 21 shots on goal while the Saints converted six of 19. Colin Kruger led Merrimack with six goals and one assist while goalkeeper Jaden Galfano made 13 saves.
Caden Olmstead opened the scoring for the Saints at 7:04, assisted by
Conor Hufnagel. Merrimack responded with a man-up goal by Colin Kruger at 4:10, leveling the score.
The Saints regained the lead with
Patrick Linton's goal at just 13 seconds left in the quarter, ending the first quarter with a 2–1 advantage.
The second quarter saw a series of swift exchanges as Merrimack gained momentum with Finn Dougherty scoring at 9:07 to tie the game. Siena quickly responded with Olmstead's goal at 8:24, assisted by
Colby LeBlanc, briefly regaining the lead.
Jack Salva scored for Merrimack at 6:46, with Rob Tyra assisting, followed by Kruger's goal at 4:23, giving Merrimack a 4–3 advantage.
Travis Fry equalized at 3:50 with an assist from
Gavin Blenk, but Merrimack surged ahead with Kruger scoring again at 2:28 and Casey Herod extending their lead to 6–4 at 1:40.
The quarter concluded with Merrimack leading by two goals.
Merrimack gained momentum in the third quarter with a strong offensive performance. Savino John scored a man-down goal at 4:18, breaking the defensive deadlock.
Shortly after, Jaconi Carmine capitalized on a man-up opportunity with an assist from Kruger at 2:10, extending Merrimack's lead. Herod and Dougherty each found the net, adding to Merrimack's scoring run and expanding the lead to 10–4 by the quarter's end.
Despite the Saints' multiple attempts, including a save by Jaden Galfano on a shot by Olmstead, the Saints were unable to find the back of the net in the quarter.
Siena opened the fourth quarter with a quick goal by Linton, assisted by
Liam Lennon, at 14:45 following
Tyler Kuprianchik's faceoff win.
Merrimack responded strongly, with Kruger scoring a man-up goal assisted by Dougherty at 12:10 and adding two more goals later in the quarter, with assists from Herod and Jack Deleo.
Salva extended Merrimack's lead further with a goal at 2:24. Despite Olmstead's late goal for the Saints, assisted by Hufnagel at 0:28, Merrimack maintained control, concluding the quarter with a 4–2 advantage.
Olmstead led the Saints with his ninth hat trick of the season and eighth in the previous nine games. Kuprianchik won 15-of-23 face offs and added a team-high 10 ground balls.
Siena had its' 10-game home winning streak snapped for its first loss since February 8, 2025 against Boston University.
