LOUDONVILLE, NY – A conference-opening title game rematch at MVP Arena. Six Friday home tilts. The first Saturday conference contest in the state capital in seven years. A pair of premier holiday home showdowns. Reigning champion Siena Men's Basketball received its intriguing 20-game regular season Metro Conference schedule Thursday, which tips off with a title game rematch vs. Merrimack on Friday, Dec. 4 at MVP Arena.
The 2026-27 Metro Conference Basketball schedule mirrors the same format as the previous season, with defending champion Siena once again playing a 20-game regular season schedule this winter featuring an even breakdown of 10 home and 10 road conference contests. The Saints will play four league foes just once as part of the continuing unbalanced schedule, and will have two conference byes. The Green and Gold will play no more than two consecutive home or road conference contests at any juncture.
Of the Saints 10 Metro home games, six will be played on Fridays, with one apiece on a Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday at MVP Arena. Siena will host Canisius on Feb. 13 in the program's first Saturday home conference game in the state capital since the 2018-19 season.
The Saints will also host a pair of holiday home games against longtime league rivals. Siena tips off 2027 with its first New Year's Day home game in nine years when they host archrival Iona on Friday, Jan. 1 at MVP Arena. For the second straight season the Saints will also play host to a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day matchup when they welcome Manhattan to Albany on Monday, Jan. 18.
As part of the unbalanced 13-team schedule, Siena will face Canisius and Rider just once at home during regular season action, and will only see Niagara and Saint Peter's on the road. Canisius, Rider, and Niagara finished as the bottom three teams in the league standings last season. With the Saints only facing Niagara out west, this will mark the first time since the 2017-18 season that Siena will not play both Western New York teams on the road. The two conference bye dates for Siena are set for Sunday, Jan. 3 and Sunday, Jan. 24.
The Saints tip off the program's 38
th season of Metro Conference competition with the annual first weekend of December action against a pair of programs which have combined to capture the conference's past three regular season titles. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) was officially renamed the Metro Conference July 1. Siena begins league play with a highly anticipated heavyweight matchup against defending regular season champion Merrimack on Friday, Dec. 4 at MVP Arena. The third-seeded Saints defeated the Warriors 64-54 on Mar. 10 in Atlantic City to claim the program's first conference crown in six years. Siena will wrap up opening weekend at 2024 and 2025 regular season champion Quinnipiac on Sunday, Dec. 6 in Connecticut.
The Saints resume league action for good on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at Fairfield, before ringing in the New Year against the Gaels in Albany. Siena makes the return trip to New Rochelle on Sunday, Feb. 7.
The most grueling part of the Saints schedule is once again set for mid-January, featuring six games in just a two-week stretch from Jan. 8-22.
Siena closes out January at I-87 rival Marist on Sunday, Jan. 31 and will also conclude regular season action against the Red Foxes for Senior Day on Sunday, Feb. 28 at MVP Arena.
For the second straight season, the Metro Conference Championships will feature the same format. The tournament, which returns to Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey for the eighth consecutive season, will be held from Mar. 4-10. Action tips off on Thursday, Mar. 4 and, following the semifinals on Sunday, Mar. 7, the two finalists will have a day off leading into the 2027 Metro Conference Championship Game on Tuesday, Mar. 9.
