Siena Women's Soccer extended its unbeaten streak against America East opponents to eight matches Thursday evening, battling defending America East Regular Season Champion Binghamton to a 0-0 draw at Bearcats Sports Complex. The Saints move to 3-1-1 on the season, while the Bearcats remain unbeaten at 3-0-1.
The result marked the 16th all-time meeting between the programs and the first since the 2021 season opener, when Siena earned a 2-0 victory in Loudonville. Siena also extended its team shutout streak to 260:57, tying the longest shutout streak in program history.
Goalkeeper
Cate Burns anchored the Saints' defensive effort with four saves to record her fourth shutout of the season and the 19th of her career. The clean sheet moved Burns into a tie with Noel Cox for the second-most shutouts in program history.
Siena entered the contest riding a three-match winning streak, with each victory coming by an identical 1-0 score, and the Saints continued their defensive dominance against the Bearcats. Binghamton managed eight shots on the evening, with four finding the target, while Siena registered seven shots and five corner kicks.
The Saints weathered early pressure from the home side in the opening half, with Burns making a pair of saves on attempts from Paige Luke. Siena generated opportunities of its own as
Catherine Rogers and
Lauren Marjanski each recorded shots, while
Anna Swyers and
Lily Farrell added attempts later in the half. Neither side was able to break through, sending the match to halftime scoreless.
Siena had its best opportunity to open the scoring early in the second half. Rogers was awarded a penalty kick in the 61st minute, but Binghamton goalkeeper Rebecca Kessler made the save to keep the match deadlocked at 0-0.
The Saints continued to create chances as the half progressed, with
Maya Costa adding a shot and Marjanski registering another attempt. Binghamton, which entered the match unbeaten in its previous 11 regular-season home matches, continued to pressure the Siena defense, but Burns and the Saints' back line stood firm.
Burns came up with two more crucial saves in the 75th minute, denying Anna Buckwalter and Lucia Lopez, before Siena's defense closed out the shutout over the final 15 minutes.
Rogers and Marjanski each finished with two shots for the Saints, with Rogers' penalty kick accounting for Siena's lone shot on goal. Burns' four saves secured the fourth consecutive shutout for Siena and extended the Saints' unbeaten run against America East competition to eight matches (5-0-3).
The draw also extended Binghamton's unbeaten streak in regular-season home matches to 12 (9-0-3). The Bearcats' last regular-season home loss came on Sept. 29, 2024, against New Hampshire, a 1-0 defeat.
The Saints return to the pitch Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 4 p.m. when they travel to Syracuse, NY, to take on Le Moyne.
