LOUDONVILLE, NY —
Alejandro Perez Jorda scored the first two goals of his collegiate career, including a pair in the final minutes of the first half, as Siena University men's soccer played Northeastern to a 3-3 draw Monday evening in its home opener at Hickey Field.
The Saints (1-1-1) controlled much of the attacking play throughout the contest, outshooting the Huskies (2-1-1) by a 22-7 margin and holding a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. Siena's 22 shots marked its highest single-game total since registering 28 against Saint Peter's on Sept. 28, 2024.
Perez Jorda paced the Saints with four shots and three shots on goal, while
Lucas Almeida added a goal on two shots.
Antonio Vicente and
Emmy Horja each recorded an assist, with Vicente also finishing with two shots.
Luca Wust added an assist and two shots.
Northeastern opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Kortay Koc converted a penalty kick, but the Saints continued to dictate the attacking tempo. Siena generated multiple chances throughout the opening half, including shots from Wust, Vicente and
Jacob Humienny that tested the Northeastern defense and goalkeeper Brady Elmblad.
The sustained pressure finally broke through in the 45th minute. Following a Siena corner kick, Wust delivered the ball into the box, where Perez Jorda headed it back across goal and inside the left post to level the match at 1-1.
Just 52 seconds later, Perez Jorda struck again. After Horja's shot was blocked, Perez Jorda pounced on the rebound and finished from close range to send Siena into halftime with a 2-1 advantage.
The Saints continued to press immediately after the break, generating three shots in the opening five minutes of the second half. Northeastern goalkeeper Brady Elmblad turned aside attempts from Vicente and Humienny before the Huskies found an equalizer in the 51st minute, with Koc scoring his second of the night.
Northeastern then took its first lead since the opening half when Bryce Flowers scored in the 66th minute, putting the Huskies ahead 3-2.
Siena responded with another sustained attacking push. After continuing to generate chances and earn corner kicks, the Saints found the equalizer in the 77th minute. Vicente played the ball to Almeida, who finished to make it 3-3.
The Saints continued to push for a winner in the closing minutes, producing additional opportunities and maintaining pressure in the Northeastern end, but the Huskies held on to secure the draw.
Bennet Glinder played all 90 minutes in goal for Siena, while Elmblad made four saves for Northeastern.
Siena will return to action Thursday, Sept. 3 when it travels to Teaneck, NJ, to face FDU. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at University Stadium.
