Second-Half Surge Sends FDU Past Siena

Knights Net Four Unanswered in Second Half to Pull Past Saints

Siena Men's Soccer held a 1-0 halftime lead Thursday night, but FDU scored four times in the second half to hand the Saints a 4-1 setback at University Stadium.

FDU, ranked No. 10 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Northeast Poll, improved to 3-0-1 on the season, while Siena fell to 1-2-1 overall.

Luca Wust opened the scoring at 17:25 with an unassisted goal off a set piece for the first goal of his collegiate career. Wust finished with two shots, both on goal.

The Saints weathered several early FDU chances before taking the lead, with Bennet Glinder making a save on Krystian Nitek in the 17th minute. Siena created additional opportunities later in the half, with Wust forcing a save from FDU goalkeeper Matheus Franca and Lucas Almeida putting a pair of attempts on frame. The Saints carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime.

FDU equalized at 51:35 before taking its first lead later in the half. Glinder kept Siena within striking distance with three saves, including a pair on shots from Jeremie Pelade. The Saints continued to generate opportunities after falling behind, earning consecutive corner kicks in the 75th minute before Ivan Struk followed with a shot.

The Knights added goals at 77:15 and 86:30 to complete the 4-1 comeback.

Glinder played all 90 minutes and recorded his 200th career save on his second save of the night. Almeida finished with two shots, including one on goal.

The Saints return to action Tuesday, Sept. 8 when they travel to crosstown rival UAlbany for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
