Brooke Malek made an immediate impact in playing her first week of volleyball as a Saint after transferring from crosstown UAlbany by being named the Metro Libero of the Week in the first weekly award of the 2026 season.
The Edmonton, Alberta, Canada native totaled a conference-high 63 digs on a 5.25 digs per set clip and added eight assists and three aces. Â
The product of Harry Ainley High School led the Saints to a three-set victory against host Central Connecticut State this past Saturday and turned in a game-high 30 dig performance in a tight five-set defeat to Rhode Island to open play against the Atlantic-10 opponent this past Friday. Malek also had a 20-dig match in a four-set loss against Holy Cross.Â
Malek became the first Saint to produce at least 30 digs in a single match since Gracie Halley accomplished that on November 17, 2022 against Canisius.Â
She was also the first Siena player to be named the Conference Libero of the Week since Halley did it on October 26, 2021.Â
For her efforts, Malek was one of four players who were named to the CCSU All-Tournament Team.Â
Siena (1-2) returns to the courts on Friday at 10 a.m. when it travels to Erie, PA to take on Cleveland State (2-1) of the Horizon League and Mercyhurst (1-2) of the Northeast Conference at 7 p.m. in the Mercyhurst Invitational.Â
