LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Volleyball team rallied back for a gut-check conference victory over Marist 3-1 (20-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-23) on Tuesday in what was a sound match played by both teams.
Siena (7-8 overall, 2-1 Metro) dropped the opening set and then trailed 20-18 in the second set before staging the comeback at the UHY Center with a prime-time audience watching on SNY.
The Saints had three players notch double-digit kills with junior
Gabrielle Wire leading the show with an electric 20 kills against just two errors for .375 hitting percentage, sophomore
Mary Claire Deacy finished with 17 kills, 11 digs and three blocks.
Junior setter
Abby Edwards recorded a career-best 53 assists, five digs, three blocks and two aces.
Redshirt senior libero
Brooke Malek collected a team-high 24 digs and added two aces.
The 53 assists by Edwards easily surpassed her previous high of 36 assists when she played for VCU against Winthrop on Sept. 7, 2024 as a freshman.
Wire was one away from tying her career-high in kills when she had 21 kills against Saint Francis (PA) on Sept. 5, 2025.
Marist, who had its' three-match winning streak snapped, dropped to 7-9 overall and 2-1 in Metro play.
The Red Foxes were led by a marvelous match from reigning Metro Player of the Week Mallory Reck, who had a match-high 25 kills on a .246 hitting percentage with 15 digs and three aces.
Set-by-Set
Marist's push from 12-11 to 19-12 left Siena chasing through the middle of the first set, and the visitors finished a 25-20 decision. Earlier, Wire opened the scoring from Edwards, and Siena moved ahead 3-1 behind kills by Deacy and
Maggie Seymour before Marist tied it at 3-3 and later went in front 7-4. Wire remained a primary option for Siena with six kills in the set, while Deacy added three and Edwards assisted 13 Siena kills. After falling behind 23-17, Siena got an Edwards kill, a

Autumn Willmott ace to close to 23-20, but Marist took the final two points to finish the set.
Siena erased a 20-18 deficit late in the second set, moved in front 23-21 and finished off a 27-25 win on an Edwards-Seymour block. Earlier, Siena turned a 4-2 deficit into a 9-5 lead by winning seven of eight rallies, with Deacy supplying a kill, Seymour and Edwards each factoring into blocks and Malek adding an ace. Marist tied the set at 9-9, but Siena rebuilt leads at 12-9 and 16-14 behind kills from Wire, Seymour and Deacy, plus a combined block from Goldberg and Deacy. After Marist went ahead 20-18 and later forced ties at 24-24 and 25-25, Siena answered with late kills from
Brianna Miller, Wire and Deacy before the final block ended the set.
Siena erased a 6-4 deficit in the third set behind Miller's service run, with Miller serving three aces around a Deacy kill to move the Saints in front 9-6. The Saints continued to create separation through Edwards' setting, as Wire and Deacy finished kills during a stretch that pushed Siena ahead 14-9. Marist kept cutting into the margin, but Siena answered with kills from Miller, Wire, Seymour and Malek to stay in front late. Miller delivered three of Siena's final four points on kills, including the set-ending swing, as Siena took the third set 25-22.
Siena answered a 20-19 deficit in the fourth set by taking four straight points, with Wire tying the set, Edwards adding a service ace and Marist errors moving Siena in front 23-20. Earlier, the Saints opened with three straight points behind two Wire kills from Edwards, and Deacy helped keep Siena close with repeated kills as Marist worked back into the set and later led 17-14. Siena pulled even at 19-19 on a Deacy kill from Bowman, then responded again after Marist briefly went back ahead. After Marist tied the set at 23-23, Goldberg and Deacy combined on a block for set point, and Deacy finished the 25-23 set win with a kill from Edwards.
