Redshirt senior libero
Brooke Malek kept it rolling this past weekend with another top defensive performance, patrolling the back line for the Saints' defense and was named the Metro Libero of the Week in a vote by sports information directors for the third time this season on Tuesday.
The transfer from crosstown UAlbany did something that has not been done in 13 seasons—by winning a third conference weekly libero award. Malek becomes the first to do so since Bobby Lin Kalama accomplished the feat during the 2013 season. No Saints player has won four times in a single season. Kalehua Katagiri has the most weekly Libero of the Week awards with four weekly nods by the conference, but did so over the course of two seasons (2015 and 2016).Â
The product of Harry Ainley High School leads the Metro in digs with 233 and ranks 19
th nationally among all NCAA Division I players with an average of 4.66 digs per set.
The Edmonton, Alberta, Canada native totaled 10 digs and six assists against Saint Peter's last Friday and turned it up with a 22-dig effort with five assists and an ace in the three-set win at Rider on Saturday.Â
Siena (6-8, 1-1 Metro) returns to the courts tonight against conference rival Marist (7-8, 2-0 Metro) at 7 p.m. on SNY and ESPN+.Â
