Joe Sheridan

Joe Sheridan was named Siena Baseball Interim Head Coach on March 20, 2023, following the retirement of Tony Rossi. Sheridan first joined the staff as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator in January 2022.

“I am excited to announce Joe Sheridan as our pitching coach,” said Rossi upon Sheridan's initial appointment. “Joe’s background will be a huge asset in helping develop our pitching staff. His experiences at the University of Central Florida and Notre Dame University will be an invaluable asset for our pitchers. He also has experience in recruiting some of the best players in the country while working for the Perfect Game Development Program. We are glad to have him as part of the Saints family.”

The youngest Division I head coach nationally when he took over the reins of the Saints, the 25-year-old Sheridan acquitted himself well despite the challenge of taking over mid-season for a team which played a challenging schedule featuring 28 games – more than half of the squad’s 55-game total – against teams who won 30-plus games, including eight contests vs. opponents who qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Moreover, Sheridan secured a signature first official head coaching victory on the road against two-time defending Southern Conference Regular Season Champion Wofford, which ended up winning 40 games this spring.

Sheridan aided in both the recruitment and development of a youth movement for the Saints this spring, which yielded MAAC All-Rookie Team honors for freshmen Danny Barbero and Ryan Bates. Three different freshmen earned MAAC Rookie of the Week awards this spring, including Aiden Stewart who became the first freshman in program history – and the conference’s first freshman in four years – to capture both MAAC Player and Rookie of the Week honors in the same week.

A pitching specialist by trade, Sheridan helped develop Bates into a weekend starter while totaling the second-most strikeouts by a freshman in program history, while staff ace Arlo Marynczak was a MAAC Pitcher of the Week and recorded the fifth-most strikeouts in program single-season history. Moreover, six of the team’s seven returning pitchers improved their respective ERA’s from the prior season.

In Sheridan’s first season with the program, he helped Ben Seiler have a breakout senior season on the mound, culminating in the program’s first-ever National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Dick Howser Trophy National Co-Pitcher of the Week award. Seiler set a 2022 NCAA single-game high with 19 strikeouts at Niagara.

Sheridan came to Loudonville following a stint at the University of Cincinnati as the Bearcats’ Director of Player Development from August to December 2021, where he oversaw the technology for the program and on-field development of the pitching staff. Over the past two summers, he served as a scout for Perfect Game USA, attending premier scouting showcases for high school players.

A native of Oviedo, Florida, Sheridan completed a successful five-year playing career in 2021 at the University of Notre Dame, where he helped the Fighting Irish capture an ACC Regular Championship and advance to an NCAA Super Regional. The left-handed reliever tied for the team lead in saves while tying for the third-most appearances on the season.

Sheridan previously spent four seasons at the University of Central Florida, where he served as a team captain and helped the Knights win the 2017 American Athletic Conference (AAC) Regular Season Title and earn a berth in the NCAA Regionals. Following a stellar freshman season, he was named a Freshman All-American by both Collegiate Baseball Newspaper/Louisville Slugger and Perfect Game/Rawlings.

Sheridan earned his B.A. in Human Communication with a Business and Professional Track from UCF in 2020, and received his Masters of Science in Management from Notre Dame in 2021.
