Coach Pickett HS

Jonathan Pickett

Capital Region native Jonathan Pickett (Mechanicville, New York) enters his third season on the Siena Men’s Basketball staff. The program’s special assistant to head coach Carmen Maciariello for the previous two seasons, Pickett was promoted to director of basketball operations in June 2023.

“Jon brings constant energy and enthusiasm to all we do,” said Maciariello upon Pickett’s promotion. “He continually invests in our players, and always puts the program’s needs at the forefront. Coach Pickett has done a great job as my special assistant, and will continue to be a tireless worker. We are thankful for his contributions to our program, and are happy for the opportunity to advance his career through this promotion to his new role.”

In Pickett’s second season on staff this past winter, Siena won 17 games while achieving the program’s record fifth consecutive top-three MAAC finish. The Saints also posted a winning non-conference campaign, highlighted by a third-place finish in the prestigious ESPN Events Invitational, which included victories over power conference foes Florida State (ACC) and Seton Hall (BIG EAST). Three Saints earned All-MAAC honors, highlighted by MAAC Rookie of the Year selection Michael Eley.

In his Pickett's season on staff, Siena achieved a 15-14 overall record and finished third in the MAAC with a 12-8 league mark. Despite returning only three scholarship players from the year prior – and being ranked tied for fourth nationally for the most newcomers (11) – Siena went 7-3 in the month of February to finish strong down the stretch.

Pickett joined the Saints after spending the 2020-21 season as the Director of Analytics for the University at Albany Men’s Basketball team. In his role, he created analytic-driven reports aimed at aiding the coaching staff with scouting reports and internal player development. Pickett also developed a shot tracking system, assisted in player development, and supervised and evaluated student managers.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to stay home and continue to grow in my career under Coach Maciariello,” noted Pickett upon his hiring. “Siena Basketball holds a special place in the Capital Region, and I’m honored to join such a storied program.”

As an undergraduate, Pickett served as the head student manager for the Great Danes for each of his final two seasons. He was the head manager and assistant to the video coordinator for the UAlbany Women’s Basketball program during his two years as an underclassman.

Pickett is a 2020 graduate of UAlbany with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration – Financial Management.
