Matt Miner

Clifton Park, New York native Matt Miner enters his third season on the Siena Men's Basketball staff. Miner spent the first two seasons as the special assistant to head coach Carmen Maciariello, before being promoted to director of basketball operations on Apr. 27, 2021.

“Matt is the ultimate professional who has worked as a volunteer for two consecutive years,” explained Maciariello upon Miner's elevation. “His loyalty is unwavering, and his ability to bring fresh ideas to our program is second to none.”

Miner first returned to the Capital Region after spending the previous four seasons on the women’s basketball staff at Division II St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.

“Winning back-to-back MAAC Regular Season Championships as the special assistant for Coach Carm has been very special,” noted Miner upon his promotion. “I appreciate the confidence and trust that Coach has shown in me, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve in a new role. I look forward to continuing our work together as we strive to win MAAC Championships and reach the NCAA Tournament.”

In Miner's first two seasons on staff, Siena has captured back-to-back MAAC Regular Season Championships while achieving a 32-15 (.681) overall record. In his first season, the Saints captured the program's eighth MAAC Regular Season Championship and were awarded their sixth MAAC Tournament title.

Miner helped guide St. Edward’s to new heights during his four years with the program, the final three of which he served as assistant coach. St. Edward’s won 20 games, posted a program-record 13 conference wins, and captured both the Heartland Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships to secure the program’s second-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2017. Miner assisted in recruiting and developing the program’s first All-American in the NCAA era, as well as four All-Heartland Conference performers. The Hilltoppers amassed 59 wins during his tenure, marking the program’s most over a four-year stretch since officially joining the NCAA ranks.

Miner has also consulted with the Phoenix Suns Analytics Department in their pre-NBA draft selection process. In 2018, he aided the Suns in their selections of No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, Elie Okobo, and George King.

Miner graduated cum laude from St. Edward’s in 2014 with his degree in finance, and received an MBA from the Hilltop in 2017. A four-year letterwinner for the men’s basketball team, he appeared in 77 career games tallying 281 points on the strength of 43 three-pointers under the direction of 2012 Capital District Hall of Fame inductee and Watervliet native Andre Cook. Miner was a two-time Heartland Conference President’s Honor Roll selection, and was named to the university’s Dean’s List five times.

Miner starred locally at Shenendehowa playing for Tony Dzikas, where he ranks fourth on the school's all-time scoring list with 971 points. Named the Section II Player of the Year and a NewsChannel 13 All-Star following his senior season in which he averaged 21.0 points, Miner helped lead the Plainsmen to Suburban Council Championships in all four seasons.

Miner is married to St. Edward’s volleyball standout, the former Laura Colley, and the couple are the proud parents of daughter Emma, born on Jan. 13, 2021. His older brother, Joe, is a 2013 graduate of Siena College who was a four-year performer on the men’s soccer team.
