Madison Townley joined Siena Athletics as Assistant Advisor for Student Athlete Development in September 2022.
She serves as the primary academic advisor for the Saints' Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, and Cross Country & Track programs, and will provide additional assistance to S.A.IN.T.S Advisor Sarah Sivertson in enhancing the department's Student Athlete Services office.
"Madison brings valuable experience from her time at UMass, George Washington, and FDU to our S.A.IN.T.S department with her work in academic advising and student-athlete development,” Senior Associate SD/SWA Angie Jabir said upon Townley's appointment. “She will make an immediate impact in our department, and we are thankful she chose to return home and join our Siena family."
Aside from prior experience at the NCAA Division I level, Townley holds valuable professional development skills, including working with the Women’s Leaders in College Sport Institute for Administrative Advancement, earning a Certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace from the University of South Florida in 2021, and presenting at the N4A national conference in 2022.
Towley came to Siena from the University of Massachusetts, where she spent ten months as an Academic Counselor within the UMass athletic department from November 2021 - September 2022. She worked primarily with the football and men’s ice hockey teams, while also providing assistance in the department’s academic success office.
Prior to her time at UMass, Townley spent four years in the athletic department at Fairleigh Dickinson University from 2017-21, serving as the Assistant Director for Student Athlete Support Services from two years, before being promoted to the Assistant AD for Academic and Student Athlete Support Services. She was the primary academic advisor for 300 student athletes and developed academic programming within the Knights’ athletic department. She also taught classes as an adjunct professor during her time at FDU.
Townley’s career in collegiate athletics began in 2014, when she spent a year at Springfield College as a Graduate Fellow within the Athletics Department. She spent a year-and-a-half at George Washington University, from January 2016 – July 2017, where served as a Student Athlete Development Assistant.
A native of the Capital Region, Townley received her Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science from George Washington in 2014, and was a member of the Colonials’ women’s rowing program. She went on to earn a Master of Education in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Administration from Springfield in 2017 and a Master of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson 2020. She is currently in the process of completing a Doctor of Education in Higher Education and Organizational Leadership from Bay Path University.
