Ryan Lanigan enters his second season as an assistant men's lacrosse coach for the 2026 season.
Heading up the Saints' defensive unit, Lanigan has overseen MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Riley Hegarty (2026) as well as the conference' most productive ground ball unit (led MAAC with 589 ground balls), the second most caused turnovers (142) and the best goals-against average (10.47).
Under coach Lanigan's watch, the Saints earned their most wins in the 2026 season since the 2011 season and were MAAC Regular Season Co-Champions.
There were 12 players who made All-MAAC teams including a program-record seven All-MAAC First Team selections and four major award winners with 24 student athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
Lanigan served as the first head men's lacrosse coach of Russell Sage from 2019 through 2024.
Starting the program from scratch, Lanigan developed the program to become a competitive program--winning six games in each of the previous three seasons with the Gators.
The former All-American at Lebanon Valley coached long-stick midfielder Joe Johnson to high acclaim as he received an honorable mention for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American Team and was voted on as a First-Team All-Empire 8 Conference member. Johnson was the first RSC men's lacrosse player to earn that distinction.
Across six seasons, 10 Gators earned All-Empire 8 Conference honors with additional academic accolades earned from College Sports Communicators (CSC), the Empire 8 Conference and Russell Sage College.
Prior to RSC, Lanigan spent two seasons as an assistant coach with Miscericordia University in Dallas, PA and helped guided the Cougars to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2017 after a 7-0 mark in the Freedom Conference. Lanigan also spent a season an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for Assumption College, setting a program record with nine victories and qualifed for the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs for the second time in program history.
The 2014 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, Lanigan became the first USILA All-American in the program's history after garnering a spot on the Third Team as a senior long-stick midfielder. Lanigan holds the program record for most ground balls (356) and caused turnovers (208). The two-year captain of the squad occupies the top-four spots on the Dutchmen's single-season record book for caused turnovers.
Lanigan residents in Ballston Lake with his wife, Erin, with their son McCoy, two dogs and two cats.
