Rebecca Sanger joined Siena Athletics as the Director of Student Athlete Performance/Head Athletic Trainer in October 2023. No stranger to the Capital Region or collegiate athletics, Sanger brings valuable experience to lead the athletic training staff in Loudonville.

Sanger oversees Siena’s athletic training staff and all day-to-day efforts in The George ’54 and Sally Maloney Sports Medicine Suite with the athletic department’s 360 student athletes.

"I welcome Rebecca to the Siena family,” Vice President/Director of Athletics John D’Argenio said upon Sanger's appointment. “During the search process, it became clear that she has excellent sports medicine skills and the drive to build upon the strong foundation that we have in our sports medicine area. How we provide these critical services to our student athletes becomes more important every day, and Rebecca's commitment to the athletes' health and wellbeing will benefit athletics. She will be joining a team of talented trainers who put the health and safety of the athletes front and center every day."

“I am very excited to join the team here at Siena,” Sanger said. “I’d like to personally thank John D’Argenio and Angie Jabir for giving me the opportunity to oversee the health and safety of our wonderful student athletes.”

Sanger joined Siena after spending seven years as an Assistant Athletic Trainer across town at the University at Albany from 2016-23, where she worked primarily with the Great Danes’ men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Prior to her experience in the Capital Region, Sanger served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Maine from 2014-16, working primarily with the Black Bears’ women’s hockey, women’s soccer, and softball programs. She began her postgraduate career in collegiate athletics at the University of West Virginia as a Graduate Assistant from 2011-13 for both the Mountaineers and at HealthWorks Rehab and Fitness before serving as an Intern Athletic Trainer at Binghamton University during the 2013-14 year.

A native of Long Beach, New York, Sanger earned her B.S. in Education from the University of Connecticut in 2011, where she spent her final two-and-a-half years as an Undergraduate Athletic Training Student. She went on to receive her M.S. in Athletic Training from West Virginia in 2013.

She resides in nearby Guilderland, New York.
