LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Student. Athletes. For the sixth consecutive school year, Siena College has set a new school record for the number of student athletes named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll. A total of 160 Saints -- 48% of the College's student athlete population -- earned 2015-16 MAAC Academic Honor Roll status for achieving cumulative grade point averages of 3.20 or higher.

A total of 2,181 student athletes from across the conference's membership were named to the 2015-16 MAAC Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible, a student athlete must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher at the end of the most recent Spring 2016 semester. The MAAC Academic Honor Roll is open to both full-time and associate members in the MAAC, and all 25 sports that the conference sponsors were represented.

Eight of Siena's 22 Division I athletic programs had at least half of their student athletes on their 2015-16 rosters represented on the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, with the MAAC Champion women's soccer team leading the way with 17 selections. Fifteen of the 18 student athletes (83.3%) on the women's cross country/track team earned recognition, and women's tennis (80%) and women's swimming and diving (76.2%) also had the vast majorities of their student athletes make the list.

Siena's MAAC Academic Honor Roll selections highlight a banner 2015-16 academic year for the athletic department. Sixteen programs maintained cumulative GPA's of 3.0 or higher this past year, with student athletes accruing a 3.17 cumulative GPA overall. Women's cross country/track leads all programs with a 3.53 cumulative GPA, followed closely by women's tennis at 3.51 after a department-best 3.67 GPA during the most recent Spring 2016 semester. Every member of the women's tennis team currently maintains a 3.19 cumulative GPA or higher, while all 25 members of the women's swimming and diving team boast GPA's in excess of 2.99.

Cross country/track also led all Siena programs with 17 combined MAAC All-Academic Team selections last season. While inclusion on the MAAC All-Academic Team also necessitates a 3.20 cumulative GPA or higher, those lists do not include freshmen or first-year student athletes whereas the MAAC Academic Honor Roll does. Both women's soccer (13) and men's lacrosse (10) each set program records for MAAC All-Academic Team selections.

Additionally, for the second straight year a total of 32 Saints were named to the athletic department's 4.0 Club for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA during either the Fall 2015 or Spring 2016 semesters, including three who posted unblemished 4.0 GPAs both terms.

Siena College's 2015-16 MAAC Academic Honor Roll
