LOUDONVILLE, NY (OCT. 13) - The Siena Saints Women's Tennis Team fell to 3-3 overall (2-0 MAAC) this afternoon when they were soundly beaten by The University of Hartford. The Hawks were able to take all but #2 singles with was awarded to Siena's Andrea Disponzio when her Hartford opponent had to retire at 3-2 in the first set with a groin pull.
In doubles, the #1 team of Nikki Mayer and Dispionzo lost for the first time this season 8-5. At 7-3 Mayer and Disponzio made a run winning the next 2 games before losing the 13th game and the match. Siena's #2 team of Betsy Brookins and Brooke Fisher were beaten 9-8, losing the tiebreaker 10-2. Trailing 7-6, they to take the next 2 for an 8-7 lead but then dropped the next game to force the tiebreaker.
In singles the only 2 contested matches were at #1 and #6 singles where both Mayer and Jenn Fahr, respectively took the 1st set 7-5, but then lost their 2nd sets and the tiebreak 3rd set.
"The team just didn't have it today," Jeff Bloomberg, the Saint's head Coach said after the match. "We beat ourselves by committing too many unforced errors. The Hartford team showed more patience and consistency then we did and it paid off for them. Now, we have to forget today and focus on tomorrow when Holy Cross visits."
Tomorrow's match is the final one of the fall season and will get underway at 10:30AM.
