LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -Julie Messenger scored both Sacred Heart goals as the Pioneers earned a critical NEC victory over Siena 2-0 in Loudonville Sunday afternoon. The Saints out-shot Sacred Heart 16-7, but could not break through against the Pioneers' cage-minder, Robyn Breer , who recorded nine saves.
Lacee Iselo (Rome, N.Y./Holland Pattent) peppered Walls with eight shots, including a breakaway chance seconds into the game. Classmate Erin Mead (Chestertown, N.Y./North Warren) notched three shots on goal in defeat.
Messenger got the Pioneers on the board exactly five minutes into the game finding the back of the cage off a rebound. With 16:55 remaining in the game, she added an insurance tally for the victors.
The Saints had several chances late in the game firing several volleys that Walls turned away. The 16 shots were a season-high for the Saints whose playoff hopes suffered a serious blow.
The Saints return home on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Albany.
