Albany Ousts Siena in Capital District Field Hockey Clash

Oct. 16, 2001

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Ali Mann (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and Amy DiMico (John Jay-Cross River/South Salem) scored twice a piece for Albany (5-9) and the Great Danes held off a late Siena (3-11) charge to preserve a 5-3 field hockey win at Siena Field Tuesday afternoon.

Mann broke the ice with just over 19 minutes remaining in the first half off an assist from Angie Stegal (Johnstown,N.Y./Johnstown). Six minutes later, Stegal found DiMico for her first tally as the Great Danes jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Stegal closed the first half scoring with an unassisted goal of her own with just nine seconds left.

DiMico's second score pushed Albany's advantage to 4-0 with just under 25 minutes remaining. The Saints, however, would not go quietly as Ashley Smaldon (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Acdemy) found the back of the cage with 23:37 remaining.

Mann quickly fired back for the great Danes with another insurance goal at 18:26.

Sophomore standout Lacee Iselo (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent) put the Saints back on the board with a powerful shot from the right wing just 20 seconds later. Freshman Rachel Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker) closed the scoring off a Michelle Dorscheid feed with just 2:26 left in the contest.
