Hamden, Conn. - The Siena Saints women's tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Marist Red Foxes today. The match was played indoors on the Siena campus. The doubles matches were not played because of time constraints.
Nikki Mayer (Latham, N.Y./Shaker), Siena's #1 singles player notched her fourth consecutive victory beating Marist's Diana Perachio 6-3, 6-2. Also coming out on top for the Saints was Betsy Brookins at #3 singles. Brookins win was her fourth in five outings this spring.
"The team is coming along," Jeff Bloomberg, the Saints coach commented after the match. "Andrea (Disponzio) was down 3-0 in the second set and came back to win four games before falling 6-4. The second set of her match was completely different than the first. Balls that were going wide or into the net in the first set started hitting their marks for winners in the second. That bodes well for the upcoming MAAC Tournament on the 19th."
Bloomberg also noted that freshman Brooke Fisher's game is starting to pick up also. Brooke who played #5 in the fall and #'s 3 & 4 this spring is settling in at #4. He believes it is only a matter of time before the wins start to come in a consistent manner.
The Saints host Fairfield on Thursday at 3PM on the Siena courts. The match is scheduled for outdoors.
