April 19-21-The sixth seeded Siena women's tennis team dropped a difficult 4-3 decision to the third seed Fairfield in the first round, but bounced back to defeat seventh seeded St. Peter's and the fifth seed Manhattan to win fifth place at the MAAC Championships at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows this weekend.

On the first day, the Saints were led by Nikki Mayer and Andrea Disponzio who claimed a top doubles victory, 8-4. Mayer also won her singles match 6-1, 4-2 before play was suspended. The only other Saint to win was Betsy Brookins who defeated Fairfields #3 singles player 6-3, 6-3. The Saints dropped the #2 and #3 doubles played by Brooke Fisher/Vicki Dunham and Jennifer Fahr/Burgh 8-6 and 8-4 respectively. Both matches were played tough and the loss ended Fisher and Dunham's 23 game unbeaten streak. In other singles action the Saints lost the #2, #4, #5, and #6 singles which were played by Disponzio, Fisher, Mullowney, and Gallocher.

On the second day of the Tournament, the Saints played St. Peter's and defeated the Peahens 4-0 in a walkover win and moved on to play in the fifth/sixth place game.

In that match, the Saints upset Manhattan by a score of 5-2 to claim the consolation championship and end their season on a bright note. The #1 doubles team of Mayer/Disponzio defeated the #1 team of Manhattan 8-2. The #2 and #3 doubles teams of Fisher/Dunham and Fahr/Bargh lost their matches 8-1 and 8-6 respectively. In singles play the Saints dominated the competition winning five of the six matches played. The Saints #1, #2, #4, #5, and #6 singles all won their matches. Mayer who continued her great play in the tournament won at # 1 single by a score of (6-4,6-0). Disponzio won the # 2 singles match 6-3, 6-4. At # 4 singles, Fisher defeated the Manhattan # 2 player 6-2, 6-3. And at # 5 singles, Dunham won her match 6-4, 6-3 and the # 6 single Eileen Gallocher won her match 6-4, 6-2.
