Senior guard Propser Karangwa will take part in the renowned Portsmouth Invitational at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. The Tournament, which features the NCAA's top senior men's basketball players, will take place from Wednesday April 9-Saturday April 12.
The prestigious Portsmouth Invitational has produced 61 NBA draft picks since 1985 and is widely regarded as the first step in the professional basketball career for college seniors. Scouts from every NBA team and several international organizations attend the event, observing the top talent the nation has to offer.
Karangwa, the lone representative from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference is on one of eight teams-each consisting of eight players. His squad is coached by Rufus Outland and Jim Markey and begins play Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The double-elimination Tournament concludes on Saturday.
Karangwa follows in the footsteps of recent Siena graduates Dwayne Archbold '02 and Marcus Faison '00 who each went on to play professionally in Belgium. Karangwa led the upstart 21-11 Saints to the second round of the National Invitation Tournament this season. He finished with a team-high 16.9 points and 5.0 assists per game, while checking in second in rebounding with 6.4 boards per contest.
Should Karangwa impress the scouts in Portsmouth, he could receive an invite to play in Chicago later this spring.
