Final Stats

Courtney Bertos and Meaghan Schweers combined for three goals and three assists as Rider rallied to defeat Siena 4-1 in a spirited field hockey game contested in Loudonville Friday afternoon. Sophomore Hanna Lestrange got the Saints on the board early, but the Broncs rallied to score the final four goals of the game.

Lestrange found the back of the cage just under two minutes into the game knocking home a drive from the top of the circle off Rider (6-4/1-1) goalie Krysta Bearish's stick. The lead was short lived as Schweers took an entry pass from Ally Hunter less than three minutes later, turned, and beat Siena goalie Jennifer Tesak for the equalizer.

With just over five minutes remaining in the first half, Scweers centered a ball in front of the Siena (1-9/1-3) cage and teammate Courtney Bartos deflected it past Tesak for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Tesak was strong again in the cage for the Saints making seven of her 12 saves in the first half. The Broncs out-shot Siena 27-4.

The second half was an emotional affair controlled by the visitors. Siena was issued three second half major penalties, consisting of two yellow cards and a disqualifying red card. The Saints did not manage a shot the entire second half.

Rider increased its advantage just over three minutes into the final stanza when Tricia Crotty fired a shot into the back of an empty cage following a well-timed centering pass from Bertos. With a little more than 12 minutes remaining, Bertos completed the scoring with a two-on-one breakaway goal.

Carly Atkinson put two shots on goal for the Saints, Anne Linley (and Lestrange) had the other.
