A Tale of Two Halves, Saints Lose 74-59

Jan. 22, 2006

Final Stats

The Siena women's basketball (7-10, 3-5) team endured another Jeckyll and Hyde performance in a 74-59 loss to Loyola (9-7, 5-3) at the Reitz Arena this afternoon.

Siena's frontcourt proved formidable in the first half despite Laura Menty drawing two quick fouls for the second straight game. The pivot players accounted for 22 of Siena's 30 first half points on 11-of-15 shooting. In foul trouble, Menty led the way for the Green and Gold with 10 points.

The Saints played much of the first half in the 2-3 zone with Loyola knocking down their outside shots. The Greyhounds spread the wealth offensively before halftime with three players scoring eight or more led by Lauren Troupe's 13 points.

Both teams shot the ball well before the intermission with the Green and Gold hitting 46% of their shots with Loyola hitting at a 56% clip. Though aggressive in driving the ball to the basket, Siena only drew three whistles on Loyola while both Menty and Heather Stec were whistled for two first half fouls each.

Siena once again struggled to score in the second half. It took the Green and Gold more than six minutes to put up their first second half point. By that point, the Greyhounds put 10 unanswered points on the board.

The Saints made one late rally but Loyola had an answer for every Siena run. Menty led the Saints with 20 points in the loss and Katelyn Dooley chipped in 14 points.

The strength for the Green and Gold in the first half is what they didn't do after the intermission, get the ball inside. The frontcourt players accounted for just 16 points and weren't the focal point of the offense.

Siena is winless on the road, 0-8, and return to the warm confines of the Alumni Recreation Center where they are 7-2 this year. They open up the three-game homestand with a Thursday night game against Niagara tipping off at 7 p.m.
