WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Junior forward Hollee Hooven registered two goals and the Hawks received individual contributions from three separate players, as Monmouth (4-9, 2-2) defeated the Siena Saints (2-9, 2-3) at Monmouth Field Hockey Complex in West Long Branch Friday afternoon.
Junior forward Traci Baldwin (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 38 minute mark, representing the Saints' lone goal in the loss.
The Hawks owned the first half of play, scoring four unanswered goals in the 35-minute session. Hooven tallied the game's first goal nearly two minutes in on a reverse stick. A minute and a half later, freshman Kelly Crist received a rebound off of a shot and fired it past Saints' goalkeeper Jennifer Tesak (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford), to give the Hawks a two-goal advantage just four minutes into the first half.
After Annie LoPresti and Hooven scored back-to-back goals to give the Hawks a 4-0 advantage at halftime, the Saints finally got on the board when Baldwin scored off of an Emily Winslow (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) assist. Winslow now leads the team in assists with three.
The Hawks put the game away at the 65:43 mark when sophomore forward Janine Rini tallied an unassisted goal, giving Monmouth a four-goal victory at home.
Playing the entire game at goal, Tesak amassed 14 saves, surpassing teammate Renee Clavette (Danville, N.H./Timberland) with a team-high 62 saves.
The Saints are back in action on Sunday against Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J.
