MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Despite individual goals from freshman Kristin McGorty (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) and sophomore Meredith Yund (Castleton, N.Y./Columbia), the Siena Saints field hockey team fell to the Robert Morris Colonials, 3-2, Sunday afternoon in Moon Township, Pa.
The Colonials (3-12, 1-5) were led by sophomore forwards Jillian Howley and Sam Lawless, who combined, supplied the team's scoring. Howley registered a pair of goals to lead all scorers, while Lawless tallied one.
The Saints recorded the game's first goal with just under 14 minutes elapsed from the clock in the first half when Yund fired the ball past Colonials goalkeeper Kate Dunlap for her first strike of her collegiate career.
With the Saints up 1-0, the Colonials retaliated at the 20:31 mark when Howley scored off of a penalty corner to knot the game at one apiece. Assists were awarded to both Jessica Charles and Sarah Schrott.
Lawless gave her team a 2-1 lead nearly four minutes later when she put one past Saints' goalkeeper Renee Clavette (Danville, N.H./Timberland) off of another penalty corner.
The Saints knotted the game at 2-2 when McGorty scored off a feed from teammate Carly Demartis (Somers, N.Y./North Salem) with four minutes left in the half.
The Colonials scored the game-winner at the 54:26 mark in the second half thanks to the stick work of Howley, who scored off of another penalty corner to give her team a one-goal victory.
The Saints (2-11, 2-5) are back in action on Sunday, October 29, when they square-off against Sacred Heart University as part of Senior Day at College Park on the campus of Union College. Game-time is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
