New Rochelle, N.Y. - The Siena women's basketball (11-14, 7-9) team continued their road woes with an 83-69 loss to Iona (14-11, 11-5) at the Mulcahy Center this afternoon. With the loss, the Saints can not finish any better than fifth place for the impending MAAC Tournament.
The Green and Gold took their final hold of the lead on a Lauren Surber layin making the score 37-36. From that point, the Gaels built up as high as a 16-point lead including outscoring the Saints 28-16 over the games final eight minutes.
Siena held a game-high nine point advantage with 10 minutes left to play in the first half behind sizzling shooting from the perimeter spearheaded by Katelyn Dooley's 3 first half treys. Iona closed out the half on a 21-6 run to give the Gaels a six point advantage going into the break.
Katelyn Dooley led the Saints with 18 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the perimeter. Siena also got double-figures from Whitney Cave and Lauren Surber with 15 points and 10 respectively.
Siena hit on 10-of-22 three point attempts setting a new season-high in the process.
Making her first appearance in three game, Martina Weber showed no ill effects from an Achilles injury as she registered a game-high 28 points. The 63% free throw shooting hit on 10-of-14 attempts.
In all, four other Gaels tallied in double-figures including Tiara Headen's 14 points and 7 boards. Anna McLean and Lauren DeFalco both provided a spark off the bench chipping in 10 points apiece.
The Saints return home to finish up the home slate with a Thursday 7 p.m. tipoff against Canisius. They then wrapup the regular season on Sunday with a league battle against Saint Peter's
