Final Stats
Loudonville, N.Y.- The Siena women's lacrosse team (0-1) opened the season with a 16-4 loss at cross-town Albany this afternoon. Saints took nearly 12 minutes to score their first goal and by that time the Danes had netted five unanswered goals.
The Saints trailed 8-2 going into halftime and managed to fire eight shots off compared to Albany's 20. Siena managed to increase their shot opportunities in the second half but watched the Danes outscore them by another 8-2 margin for the 16-4 final.
The first of Christina Pampalone's three goals came with 8:19 left in the first half. After Albany had extended the lead to 8-1, Pampalone provided her second goal with the assist going to junior Michelle Eide. Her third and final goal of the afternoon came on an Amy Schoonmaker assist to put the Saints on the board in the second half.
Sophomore Bethany Zimmer played the entire game in goal for Siena making five second half saves en route to seven in the game.
Freshman Lindsey Rosecrans provided some offense off the bench tallying the final Saints goal at the 11:45 mark in the second half.
Albany got two goals or more from six players including three goals apiece for Julie Bush and Nikki Donohue.
The Great Danes held the edge in groundballs, 35-32.
Siena travels to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take on LIU on March 5 at 5 p.m. After that, the Saints open up the home slate with a March 8 date against Vermont at 3 p.m.
