Final Stats
Siena and Marist split the six singles competition, but the Red Foxes swept doubles play to earn the key point in a 4-3 win over the Saints Wednesday in Loudonville. It was the first MAAC loss of the season for Siena. Marist remains undefeated in league play.
Freshman Sarah Mayer won her eighth straight match and improved to 16-1 on the season with a 6-0 and 6-4 win at top singles for the Saints. Mayer finished the regular-season 7-0 in MAAC play as well. Yana Tikhonko defeated Taylor Barvoets in a three-set match at second singles to record a point for the Red Foxes.
The teams traded wins in the final four singles spots with Erin Gdly and Mary Conlon posting wins for Marist and Karina Davis and Meghan Slenkamp winning for the Saints.
Double play proved critical. In the top doubles spot, Inge Lageange and Godly paired for a 9-8 (10) win over Mayer and Barvoets. Tikhonko and Zampello defeated Hluchova and Davis 8-6 at second doubles and Gureck and Colon completed the sweep with an 8-6 triumph over Slenkamp and Sugam Langer.
This was the last MAAC match of the season for Siena, which will enter next weekend's conference championships as the #2 seed in the league.
