April 12, 2006

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Freshman Lindsey Rosecrans scored a career-high five goals, including a strike with 1:49 to play that propelled the Siena Saints (2-11, 0-5) over West Coast Conference representative, Saint Mary's College (3-8, 1-4) in non-conference action in Loudonville on Wednesday afternoon.

Including Rosecrans, nine individual Saints had goals in the victory. Sophomore Lauren Ritchie netted two goals alongside senior captain Michelle Eide, who also finished the day with a two-goal performance.

Highlighting the first half of play were three scores by Rosecrans and two teams that rapidly exchanged goals throughout the 30-minute duration. Following a goal by senior Molly Wagner that put the Gaels up by a count of 5-3, Eide cut the lead to one following an unassisted goal at the 13:20 mark. The Gaels scored the next four of six goals, including three that went unanswered to close out the half with a 9-6 advantage.

It took the Saints only eight and a half minutes to expire in the second half to notch the game at nine thanks to goals by Ritchie, freshman Ryan Tierney and Eide, respectively. Saint Mary's countered with a 3-0 run, including a goal by freshman Dana Elfvin and a pair of scores by sophomore Chloe Dee that gave the Gaels a 12-9 lead with 16:35 remaining.

Following a trifecta of goals by Ritchie, sophomore Amy Schoonmaker and Rosecrans that tied the game at 12-12, the Saints reclaimed the lead when sophomore Kathryn Marcantonio fired a shot that blew past Gaels' goalkeeper, Sara Jo Rodriguez. Freshman Erin Montgomery complimented her teammate with a goal of her own at the 5:59 mark that put the Saints up two, 14-12.

Red-shirt freshman P.J. Hainley tied the game after she scored two consecutive goals within a 15 second time span, with the latter coming at the 3:38 mark. Hainley led the Gaels in offensive production on the day with four goals.

With the game on the line, Rosecrans scored the game-winner that sneaked past Rodriguez, giving the Saints a one-goal victory.

Saints' goalkeeper Bethany Zimmer accumulated 16 saves in the contest, whereas Gaels' goalies Hilary Gardner and Rodriguez combined for just three. By game's end, the Gaels picked up 61 ground balls, compared to the Saints' mark of 48.

The Saints next welcome UC Davis to Loudonville on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
