LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena Saints (2-12, 0-5) posted a strong outing against UC Davis (7-6, 0-4) in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon, but fell by a count of 14-10 at a sunny Siena Field in Loudonville.
Freshman Lindsey Rosecrans and sophomore Lauren Ritchie led the Saints on offense with two goals a piece. Rosecrans accumulated a total of seven goals in back-to-back games with her pair of strikes on Saturday. Freshmen Ryan Tierney, Erin Montgomery and Stephanie DiMari each contributed to the Saints' cause with goals of their own, while sophomore Amy Schoonmaker and juniors Christina Pampalone and Sarah Elliot completed the Saints' scoring on the day with a goal each.
The Aggies fired out to an early 3-0 lead following an unassisted goal by junior Katie McMahon at the 18:24 mark. McMahon led all scorers on the day with six goals.
The Saints got on the board two minutes and twenty-two seconds later when Rosecrans scored consecutive goals within a 15-second time span to cut the Aggies' lead to one, 3-2.
Following a Schoonmaker goal at the 16:52 mark, McMahon led the Aggies out to a 4-1 run with a pair of goals, eventually fastening a four-point lead at halftime, 8-4.
After the Aggies increased their lead to 12-6 following a Lindsay Messina goal with under 10 and half minutes remaining, the Saints scored three straight goals by Ritchie, Pampalone and Elliot, respectively. The Saints' resurgence of scoring sliced the Aggies' lead to 12-9 with just seven minutes to play.
However, the Aggies bolstered the victory with a pair of insurance goals by McMahon and sophomore Alden Monger that made the score 14-9. A goal by Tierney at the 1:48 mark was too late for any chance of a comeback by the Saints, as they fell by a four-goal decision.
In loose ball opportunities, the Saints scooped a total of 52 groundballs, compared to the Aggies' mark of 45. In goal for the Saints, sophomore Bethany Zimmer registered six saves, while goalie Hilary Harkins saved 13 on behalf of the Aggies.
The Saints now travel downstate to Brooklyn to square-off against Long Island University on Wednesday with a game-time slated for 5 p.m.
