Final Stats
NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. -Niagara University junior Lindsay Hamann recorded her third goal of the game with 2:06 gone in the second overtime period, to give the Purple Eagles a 12-11 a sudden-death double overtime win over visiting Siena College in MAAC play.
With the loss, the Saints dropped to 2-14 overall and 0-6 in conference play, while the Purple Eagles improved to 6-8 on the season and 2-4 in the MAAC.
Siena and Niagara traded goals through the first 22:02 of the game, as the score was knotted at 2-2. Juniors Christina Pampalone and Michelle Eide scored the first two goals for the Saints.
Hamann gave Niagara its first lead of the game, 3-2, at the 23:25 mark with her first goal of the game, and then the Purple Eagles extended the lead to two 1:10 later. Saints freshman Ryan Tierney scored to make it a 4-3 game, Harrison marked again with 2:43 remaining in the first period to give Niagara a 5-3 lead at halftime.
To start the second half, the Saints came out and scored three unanswered goals, coming from Lindsey Rosecrans, Lauren Ritchie and Kathryn Marcantonio taking a 6-5 lead with 21:38 left to play.
The Purple Eagles followed the Saints scoring run with three consecutive goals of their own, to regain the lead at 8-6. The Saints came back to tie the game at 8-8 with 3:43 left in the second half, and after a Hamann goal to give Niagara a 9-8 lead, Pampalone struck again to tie at 9-9 with 30 seconds in regulation to force overtime.
Niagara scored the extra frame's first goal 1:02 in before Eide netted two goals for the Saints to take an 11-10 lead with 3:47 remaining.
Niagara junior Liz Johnson sent the game into the second overtime, scoring with 1:15 remaining and it was Hamann who sealed the win for the Purple Eagles at the 3:54 mark.
Sophomore Amy Schoonmaker recorded two assists, while junior Sarah Elliot and Rosecrans tallied four and five groundballs, respectively.
In goal, sophomore Bethany Zimmer made 11 saves for the Saints, who remain winless in league play.
The Saints will conclude their 2006 season tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Canisius College.
