Schenectady, N.Y. - Meredith Evans deflected Tiffany Church's entry pass into the cage in the 12th minute lifting Radford to a 1-0 victory over Siena Saturday at Bailey Field in Schenectady. Siena's Jennifer Tesak made 14 saves in the setback.
Evans scored the game's only goal following a penalty corner she initiated. After centering the ball to the top of the circle, Church rifled the ball toward the cage where Evans redirected it past Tesak. The Highlanders played solid defense all afternoon to make the lone tally standup.
Radford (1-0) out-shot Siena 25-1 and held a 16-1 edge in penalty corners. The Saints battled, and thanks to Tesak's effort remained within striking distance throughout.
Junior Hanna LeStrange tallied Siena's (0-1) only shot on an odd-man rush. LeStrange had her shot partially deflected before it trickled toward the cage and was turned away by Megan Stucke.
The Saints were also strong defensively, led by senior captains Lauren Mecchella and Carly Demartis. Juniors Anne Linley and Alicia Reagan were each credited with a defensive save in the second half to keep it a one goal game.
Siena returns to action Wednesday at Albany.
