Final Stats
Burgandy McCurty and Nadiege Honore each had 16 kills to lead Siena past visiting Manhattan 3-0 (30-21, 30-26 and 30-22) in Loudonville Sunday afternoon. The match was televised throughout the Capital Region and streamed at SienaSaints.com as part of the College's All-Access platform.
Siena played without MAAC Rookie of the Year candidate Aubrey Bobo, who continues to be hampered by a lingering bicep injury. Sophomore Kau'i Robello - also a regular in the Saints' rotation - also did not play.
Head coach Garvey Pierre went deep into his bench, using all of the available 14 members of his roster. McCurty proved most effective, killing 16 of her 27 attacks with just one error to post a .556 hitting percentage. Setter April London had 43 assists and nine digs, killing three of her five attacks.
The Saints also got key contributions from reserves Jessica Hackett and Celeste Sisson. Hackett had three service aces and Sisson added two aces and seven digs. Several times, Siena rallied behind their serves.
Honore collected a double-double, leading the team with 12 digs. Kathi Kobayashi had 11 digs, playing libero the first two games before seeing spot action as a defensive specialist in the third when freshman Aimee Gosse was assigned the opposite jersey.
Sherryta Stokes and Jackie Kapovich led Manhattan's (4-22/3-11) attack with 10 kills each.
The win snapped a three-match losing streak for Siena which improves to 18-6 on the season and 13-1 in the league. The Saints still control their own destiny in terms of securing the top seed for this year's MAAC Championships in mid-November. Siena holds a tie-breaker over rival Fairfield with four conference matches left this season.
