LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena (0-1) men's lacrosse team dropped their season opener 11-7 versus Air Force (0-1) this afternoon in Colorado Spring, Colo. Conrad Lochocki, a senior attackman, led the way for the Falcons posting a game-high five goals. Chris Zarins (Bayville, N.Y.) Shaun Dunn (Amityville, N.Y.) and Tim Rau (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) tallied two goals apiece for the Saints in the losing effort.
The Saints struck first with the only goal of the first quarter when Dunn blasted one into the back of the net at the 11:07 mark. However, the Falcons retaliated with five unanswered second quarter goals to take a 5-1 advantage into the half.
Siena rallied back early in the third when they connected on back-to-back goals cutting the Falcons lead to two. Rau placed the first goal past the Air Force goaltender with 13:07 remaining, this marked Rau's first career goal as a Saint. Soon thereafter, sophomore attackman Matt Girsh (Mahopac, N.Y.) registered his first goal of the 2007 campaign at 10:13 cutting the Falcons advantage to 5-3.
Air Force followed this mini Siena run with a four goal spurt of their own which was sparked by consecutive goals by Lochocki. The Saints battled back responding with two goals coming from Dunn and Zarins cutting the Falcons lead down to 9-5 with 6:47 remaining. However, this would be the closest the game would get as each squad tallied two late goals allowing Air Force to fly off with an 11-7 victory.
Sophomore goaltender Brian Cordts (Northport, N.Y.) earned the loss in net for the Saints allowing all 11 goals. Although, Cordts tallied a game-high 16 saves on the afternoon.
The Falcons outshot Siena 46-38, while the Saints held the 12-10 advantage on face-offs. Scott Montgomery (West Islip, N.Y.), a sophomore midfielder, was dominant on face-offs going 5-for-7 for Siena.
The Saints return to action on Saturday in their home opener versus cross-town rival Albany on Siena Field. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
