Siena Field Hockey Falls at St. Francis, 3-1

Sept. 30, 2007

Box Score

Loudonville, N.Y. - Red Flash junior forward Belen Albanes tallied two second half goals which proved to be the difference in St. Francis' (PA) 3-1 win over Siena Field Hockey this afternoon at DeGol Field in Loretto, Pa. Senior forward Traci Baldwin (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) notched her first goal of the season in the losing effort for the Saints (1-7-0, 1-2-0 NEC).

St. Francis (1-9-0, 1-0-0 NEC) took an early 1-0 advantage thirteen minutes into the contest on an Allison Severage goal. Severage knocked in a rebound attempt by Siena goalkeeper Renee Clavette (Danville, N.H./Timberland) after she had made the initial save on a shot by the Red Flash's Annie Paccione.

In what was a back and forth first half, the Saints would answer back in the 26th minute to even the score at one. Baldwin scored the 10th goal of her illustrious career following a well executed pass from teammate Hanna LeStrange (Worcester, Ma./Notre Dame Academy).

The Red Flash quickly regained the lead early in the second half on an Albanes score off an assist from Paccione in the 45th minute. Albanes would later add another tally, her second of the game and sixth goal of the year, to ice St. Francis' (PA) first victory of the season.

Despite controlling the tempo in the Red Flash zone for much of the latter part of the second half, the Saints were unable to chip away at the St. Francis (PA) lead. Siena mustered an offensive frenzy firing six shots on goal in the final nine minutes of the game, but Red Flash goalkeeper Erin Reifsteck was equally impressive, stopping each and every Saints scoring attempt down the stretch.

"We had enough opportunities in the last fifteen minutes to win the game," reflected Head Coach Bill Davidson. "We put ourselves in a position to win and now we just need to find a way in the future to convert on those chances."

Siena held a 12-10 shots on goal advantage and mounted nine penalty corners, including eight in the second half alone. Carli Atkinson (Canton, Conn./Canton) led the Saints offensive attack totaling five shots on goal, while Baldwin added three of her own.

The Saints will return home to Loudonville Friday to square off with conference foe Monmouth. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. from Siena Turf Field.
