Jen Cetenich and Jill Power staked Rhode Island to a 2-0 lead and the Rams held off Siena 3-1 in a non-league field hockey game in Rhode Island Saturday. Kristin McGorty scored Siena's goal with just under five minutes to go in the first half off an Emily Winslow assist.
Siena goalie Renee Clavette had 10 saves, helping Siena to its best showing of the season.
Cetenich found the back of the cage exactly 10 minutes into the game, scoring off a double assist following a penalty corner. Powers, who was credited with an assist on the goal, had the favor returned just over 15 minutes later, scoring after a well timed pass from Centenich.
McGorty cut the lead in a half on a one-timer in front of the cage, as Winslow centered the ball. It was the Saints' second goal of the season.
Rhode Island added an insurance tally in the second when Lexi Mihalides finished off a flurry of activity in front of the cage.
The Rams held a 20-10 edge in shots and a slim 11-10 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore Andrea Caso had three of the Saints' shots on goal.
Siena returns to action Friday night at UAlbany.
