Final Stats
Chelsea Carlson notched a pair of goals and Dana Luhrs added the game-winner as Sacred Heart shutout the Siena field hockey team 3-0 this afternoon in Fairfield, Conn. It marked the Saints (0-12, 0-3) second consecutive 3-0 defeat as they were shutout for the fifth time this season.
Luhrs scored the game-winner for the Pioneers (4-10, 2-1) in the 19th minute. The Sacred Heart midfielder corralled an entry pass off a penalty corner from teammate Carisa Eye and fired it home for the decisive tally. Both Luhrs and Eye each had a major hand in the Pioneers offense, combining for 13 of the squads' shots.
Strong goaltending by the Saints' senior tandem of Renee Clavette and Jennifer Tesak kept the score close for the majority of the game before Sacred Heart put it away late. Carlson's tallies in the 53rd and 66th minute put the game out of reach.
Nonetheless, both Clavette and Tesak were staunch between the pipes, combing for 13 saves. Three separate Saints each recorded shots as the team was out-shot 32-3.
Additionally, Sacred Heart held a 23-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Siena completes its weekend swing through the Nutmeg State with its final road contest of the season on Sunday at Quinnipiac. Game time is slated for 12 noon.
