Saints Stumble Against Rider, 3-0

Oct. 24, 2008

Final Stats

Loudonville, N.Y. - Rider's Tricia Crotty scored a pair of goals and goalie Lyndsie Johnson recorded her fourth consecutive shutout as the Broncs defeated the Siena field hockey team 3-0 this afternoon at Siena Turf Field. With the defeat, the Saints (0-14, 0-5) were officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Rider's (11-5, 5-0) win was its eighth straight and fourth consecutive by virtue of a shutout. Additionally, the victory qualified Rider for a spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament for a ninth consecutive season.

The Broncs broke open the scoring at the 8:22 mark when Diana Celebre corralled the ball off the stick of teammate Virginia Egusquiza in a scrum and fired it into the Siena cage. It was Celebre's team-leading 11th goal of the season.

Rider had numerous additional opportunities to pad its lead as the half wore on, but Siena goalie Renee Clavette was exceptional in net turning aside shot after shot. In all, Clavette made five saves in the first half and seven for the game, many of which were from point blank range.

The Broncs put the game away in the second half coming courtesy of Crotty's eighth and ninth goals of the season. Both tallies were finished off nice feeds from teammate Amanda Barretta.

Rider held a 17-3 advantage in shots over the Saints and 10-3 margin in penalty corners. Johnson needed to make just one save for the Broncs to record the shutout and extend her consecutive scoreless streak to 340 minutes, spanning nearly five full games.

The Saints return to action for their second game of a season-ending four game home streak Sunday against Monmouth. Game time is slated for 12 noon with broadcast coverage beginning on SienaAllAccess.com at 11:45 a.m.
