Final Stats
Jaime Bourazeris notched a pair of goals and Erin Parker also added four points as the 17th ranked UMass Minutewomen defeated the Siena Field Hockey team 5-1 this afternoon in Amherst, Mass. Freshman Jenn Reich accounted for Siena's (0-8) lone score, tallying her first collegiate goal.
UMass (8-3), which was playing its first game as a nationally ranked team since 2000, wasted no time building an early lead. Parker got the Minutewomen on the board first just six minutes into the action with her fourth goal of the season.
Parker would assist on the next two scores, both by Bourazeris, as UMass entered halftime with a 3-0 advantage. Bourazeris notched the final goal on a penalty corner as time expired in the first half.
UMass added a pair of quick tallies to pad its score to 5-0 early in the second half, with the final goal coming off the stick of Jackie Tait on a rare penalty stroke.
The Saints got on the scoreboard in the 53rd minute as Reich, a converted back playing on the forward line, scored her first collegiate goal. The Siena freshman class, which has been a bright spot all season long, has now accounted for each of the Saints' last four goals.
The Minutewomen harbored a 31-2 advantage in shots and held an 11-2 margin in penalty corners. Goalie Jennifer Tesak was stout between the pipes for Siena, posting eight saves over 35 minutes of action.
Siena returns to action Tuesday for a meeting in the state capital at cross town rival UAlbany. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
