LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer lost their regular-season finale to Loyola 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Loudonville. With the win, Loyola won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season championship and the #1 seed in the Tournament next weekend. Siena (#3) will face Fairfield (#2) on Friday at 2 p.m. at Siena Turf Field.

Siena (13-2-3, 6-2-1) and Loyola (9-5-4, 7-0-2) played an even matched start. The Greyhounds outshot the Saints 10-7 in the first half and Siena only put one shot on goal.

The Saints had a great scoring chance taken away in the 24th minute of the game. Sophomore Cara Riley played a long ball up the middle of the field and Maria DeMatteo challenged the last defender for it. DeMatteo escaped the back, but just as she was speeding past her, the referee blew the play dead for a foul on Loyola. DeMatteo's breakaway was negated for a free kick.

Loyola took a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute on a goal by Lea Day. Kelly Farrell served a ball from the right sideline and Day headed it past goalkeeper Laura Ettinger at the near post from five yards away.

The Saints fought back to tie the game seven minutes later. Freshman Ashleigh Barone sent a cross from the right side of the box to Lindsay Tegas who closed at the far post and headed it into the back of the net.

Day scored the game winning goal in the 62nd minute on a 35-yard strike to the upper-90 at the right post. Ettinger made seven saves in the loss. Brittany Henderson made three saves in the win.

Seniors Patti Carroll, Stephanie DiMari, Chelsea Maguire, and Shana Brady were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
