Surging Saints Host Iona on Senior Day Saturday

Women’s Soccer Looks to Wrap Up Postseason Berth

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Winners of five straight, surging Siena Women's Soccer looks to punch its ticket to postseason play when the Saints host Iona on Senior Day Saturday at 1 p.m. on Hickey Field. Siena will honor its five-member senior class in a special pre-match ceremony at 12:45 p.m.

Joe Puccio, Jayanna Monds '20, and Gianna Deso have the call of the action on ESPN+. Saturday marks the final of five Siena Women's Soccer regular season home ESPN+ broadcasts this fall. All additional home matches will be broadcast on Siena All-Access.

Fueled by the program's first five-match win streak in nine years (Sept. 27 – Oct. 11, 2017), a Siena (11-3-1, 7-2) win or tie or a Sacred Heart loss or tie vs. Mount St. Mary's Saturday (12 p.m. kickoff) would clinch the Saints a third straight conference tournament berth. Siena enters play also in search of its first 12-win season since 2015, while the Saints seven conference wins equal the program benchmark (2004, 2016, 2024). Siena has not won as many as six consecutive matches since also accomplishing that feat 11 years ago during the 2015 championship season.

But the Saints will first need to get through an Iona (5-8-2, 2-6-1) squad seeking to snap a three-match losing streak. The Gaels have dropped six of their last seven overall to be officially eliminated from postseason contention, and have lost six straight away from New Rochelle.

Siena has played Iona more times (44) than any other program in what has been a one-sided series over the past decade plus. The Saints also have more wins over the Gaels (30) than any other opponent in a series in which they hold a commanding 30-12-2 advantage. Siena has won 15 straight in the series while outscoring Iona by a 42-8 margin. The Gaels last defeated the Saints 1-0 in overtime on Oct. 19, 2013 in New Rochelle. Moreover, Siena is also undefeated spanning its past 15 matches (13-0-2) in Loudonville against the Gaels, with the last Iona win coming 1-0 in double overtime on Oct. 22, 2000.
