Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena swimming and diving team posted a strong second day at the 2008 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships this evening in Baltimore, Md. The Saints moved ahead of Fairfield and into sixth place with 199.5 overall points and also now trail Niagara by just seven points for the fifth position. Marist continues to hold a sizeable lead in the race for the MAAC Championships which conclude tomorrow.
After setting three new school records on Day One, the Saints shattered another long standing team record this evening in the 800 free relay. The team of Brittany Pavolko, Allison O'Keefe, Veronica Cimilluca and Caitlyn Biagioli completed the event in a time of 8:01.85. The previous school record of 8:02.23 had stood for seven years since being set in 2001 by former Saints Kelly Pangburn, Raina Paul, Grace Trumane and Kelly Collins.
In individual events, Bridget Rowland posted the Saints lone top five finish, coming in fourth in the 100 back (:59.90).
The final day of the three day long MAAC Championships gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday morning with preliminaries to be followed by the finals at 6 p.m.
